Reclaiming Motherhood
Motherhood in Art is often portrayed as an idealized and sentimental love, usually the ubiquitous Madonna and Child. As a mother my love for my children has always been immense, but my role as mother was tough, and often filled with conflict. My mother also struggled, and felt betrayed by society’s unrealistic expectations of mothers. I paint about the realities and challenges of motherhood with honesty and compassion.
